Sound is garbled for a second and mouse freezes

I have been noticing an issue lately where my sound (usually just Spotify) becomes distorted/garbled for about a second, sometimes with a "freeze" in mouse movements. It happens every couple of days and seems to happen when working from home, which is just a remote session so there is very little load on my system. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

May want to try swapping USB ports for mouse and keyboard. Sometimes it DOES make a difference.

I don't badmouth others' input, I'd appreciate others not badmouthing mine. *** More below ***

This seems like an unlikely fix for an issue that pops up every now and then- I don't think the mouse freeze is the root cause of the issue, it's the sound I am concerned with.
