So, while I am writing this thread my gpu clock jumps strangely between numbers 300-500 Mhz

I had this problem persist from previous driver to the newest driver which I updated yesterday.

I have no other programs open than google chrome and gpu-z

GPU: r9 290 reference

I think it's just due to the downclocking "Zero core" feature. Where you GPU "turns itself off" to save power. Obviously some power is required to process the visual image on the display.

I would imagine this is what it is doing.

Corsair 400R, i7 3770K @ 4.5GHz 16GB, Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz, Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Motherboard, 240GB Samsung 840 Evo Sata III SSD, 2 x Asus GTX 780 Direct CU2 SLI, Corsair H100i and Corsair AX860i Platinum Power supply.

But sometimes it may jump to like +800 Mhz too, when idling! The gpu usage stays at 0% thought.

I think it's still part of the zero core feature. It will clock itself down when there is "nothing" happening. But will kick in from time to time. Have you overclocked the GPU?

Nope, haven't overclocked.

But sometimes it stays up enough for gpu to gain heat which makes my gpu fan spin faster. =/

Also I am pretty sure this didn't happen last week.

Could be influenced by thermals and dust build up. You can create custom fan profiles, if the fan speeds at idle, if it bothers you.
