So I built a new pc, and right when I was about to put in my gpu I found out it was a few mm (less than 5) to long and my radiator is in the way. Have a gtx 1070 ti and a Id cooling frostflow x 240 radiator.

Would I be able to sand or drill down a small bit of my radiator to make room, where the gpu is I the way, as that is just the metal bracket for mounting. Doing so would give me enough clearance to install the gpu.

If changing your case or placing a cpu air cooler(instead) is currently not in your options. I suggest that you modify the front panel of your case to fit your rad on the exterior side of the front panel instead, rather than modifying your rad itself. You may do so if your case does not allow you to mount your rad on top of it.

Note: Position your rad end tubes lower than your cpu coldplate end tubes. To make sure that water always flow through your pipes and not mixed with air  - to have more efficient cooling and protect your pump as well.

that wouldn't be a good idea imo. besides, you still need to mount the fans, no? if there is no top spot on the case for the rad(doesn't look like it), you would either need to switch to an air cooler, or swap cases.

I have the fans mounted externally
