I recently upgraded to a 6900XT. I've noticed that my primary display will occasionally act like it is running at a low refresh rate. Window animations and videos are very choppy (like running sub 60hz).

  • Checking the refresh rate set in Windows confirms the correct value: 170hz
  • Changing the value doesn't correct the problem
  • Turning off one of my secondary displays temporarily corrects the problem
  • Turning the secondary display back on DOES NOT recreate the issue
  • Games are not affected.
  • Latest AMD drivers are installed

I don't know if there is a setting or group of settings that is causing this. I actually wouldn't know where to start. Any ideas would be appreciated.

if the multiple monitors don't all share a refresh rate then it would be quite probable that the drivers/os just have issues trying to sync the animations between the two monitors. WHY it's having that problem , is going to be difficult to solve considering we didn't write the os or drivers ourselves.

check if it still happens if the main is set to a value divisible by two to the other monitor. so if the other monitor is 60 then see if it happens when the main is set to 120

I think I know WHEN the issue occurs. It looks like it only happens after the display goes to sleep, so it probably is some problem combination between this specific monitor and gpu. I'll tool around in power settings to see if I can find an answer. Thanks.
