Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): First time making a PC from a lifelong Mac user, I want to know what I should do to my build to have optimum performance and longevity (aesthetics don't necessarily matter).

Even before seeing your list or making my own, I suggest you wait a month or two for new AM5 and RDNA 3 to launch. Then you'll be set for good longevity and relevancy to future hardware.

If you wait, you'll likely be waiting 6ish months for top tier stuff. But I'd advise waiting and then going with current gen stuff after the launch of next gen. Shit will be *cheap*

The link should now be public, sorry for that.

What type of performance gains can I expect if I wait 6 ish months for the next gen hardware?

Hard to say, only rumours at most right now. My heart says no more than 20%~ from flagship to flagship.

But our suggestion to wait for next generation isn't for the performance gain, there will still be some of course but rather your how many upgrade options open up for you in years to come.

If you upgrade an AM5 system in 5 years you'll have far more and better upgrade paths than if you were to build an AM4 system right now or Intel 12th gen. Reports say AM5 is planned to be supported for the same amount of time as AM4, so 2028 you should still have brand new compatible parts available.
