KVM Solution

Hey!

 

I am looking for a KVM switcher that could meet the following requirements, making it seamless to switch at least 3 x devices.

 

I have dual monitors

 

• 105754 27" BenQ EX2780Q Monitor, IPS, 2560x1440, 144Hz, 5ms, FreeSync, HDR, 20M:1, 350cd/m², HDMI/DisplayPort/USB Type-C
• 105755 32" BenQ EW3280U Monitor, IPS, 3840x2160, 60Hz, 5ms, FreeSync, HDR, 20M:1, 400cd/m², HDMI/DisplayPort/USB Type-C

 

• I have a wired keyboard (USB) - optional Bluetooth as well. KeyChron K4
• Razer wireless mouse (USB dongle).
• I have a Logitech webcam (USB)
• Blue Yeti microphone (USB)
• powered bookcase External speakers (an ideally optical output but 3.5mm would work)
• extra USB to plug in a headset for Skype, Teams etc.

 

Inputs

 

• I have a gaming desktop PC with an Nvidia 2080ti and currently use Display Port to connect to the monitors. As its gaming i, need the 4k to be at 60hz and the 1440p to be at 144hz. It is likely in the future i might replace the 4k monitor with a new one which would also be 144hz.

 

• I have a Mac Mini M1 which has USB-C + HDMI out

 

I would like the above always plugged in and working.

 

• I have a work Windows Laptop with HDMI out. I am using https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09M77BDVK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Which has a USB_C input and allows 2 x HDMI out. It's pretty flakey.  It is totally locked down and cannot change anything windows wise.
   
• I have a personal Macbook Air (M2) "on order" with USB-C which I understand can only output to 1 monitor - but don't understand why the above USB-C hub could not work to output dual screens ?

 

The windows work laptop and the Macbook air dont need to be plugged in at the same time, i would switch out as needed.

 

I suspect this is an impossible set of requirements with the current market. However, i cannot be that unusual these days?

do you mean plug one cable into whatever laptop you want to be using at a time, or a USB-C dock type situation for each laptop, and then a KVM to switch between them?

 

because if it's the latter, a dual-display 4-port HDMI KVM and an appropriate dock per laptop might be your most reliable solution. it's not the prettiest, it's what's not gonna make you pull your hair out.

Sorry, edited the orginal post to make clearer.

 

The windows work laptop and the Macbook air dont need to be plugged in at the same time, i would switch over as needed.  as its USB-C i assume i would need to keep using a USB-C hub with dual monitor outputs that would then connec to the KVM?  Although if i do that the keyboard, mouse, webcam etc that is plugged into the KVM would not work.   uhm ......  The KVM would not have a single USB-C input ? never seen that before.

Have a similar (but smaller) setup (windows + macbook) and have tried a couple of different devices, but most of them seems cheap and fails over months or weeks... no lucky yet..

 

Wonder if you have any, have you find a `solution`?
