Hi all,

So I am looking at buying a machine to act as a small home server to store family pictures and videos, Run a Jellyfin server and act as a NAS. This will be primarily used for the Jellyfin server, but other things aswell. Now I have seen many solutions online to buying/building a machine to run this off of, however i dont want something high power or big that iwll get in the way. People have mentioned laptops too me, which is currently the solution i have atm but it is not really an effective solution in my opinion. Ive seen and looked at Intel NUC's but i wouldnt know how much power i really need to be able to run this Jellyfin server, with multiple users active at once, max of 3 at once maybe. I thought about a Rasberry PI but they seem like they wouldnt be able to handle transcoding very well, or at least that whats ive heard from people. Im just not sure at this point, what would be best for my needs. I am also planning on running a few other things of of this machine in the future, but they are not high usage. I would also like a high speed USB port of some sort so i can attach an external Hard-drive bay, and maybe a 2.5 gigabit ethernet, although not a priority.

For the Software side of things, i really do not want to use windows as the OS because i have that on my laptop atm and its not the best(Its Crap). I would also like to be able to run an incremental backup of my data and it would be usefull if i can access it from my main PC remotely, so I can manage it.

Apart from that i cannot really think of anything else.

Thankyou to anybody who can help me

Thanks, George
