Today I put together my new PC with the following specs:

* Ryzen 5600x w/ stock cooler

* Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC (replace a MSI B550M Pro-VDH Wifi that I thought was the problem)

* Corsair Vengence 2x8gb 3200mhz ram

* MSI RX570 (Left over from previous build)

* Corsair RM650x power supply

When I finished the build I went to install Windows 10 and everything went smoothly. After I got it installed I started to work on getting the proper drivers I needed. First I installed chrome, then went to find the drivers for the graphics card. I downloaded it and was hit with a BSOD. I then booted it back up and tried to install the downloaded driver but again got a BSOD.

As of now the PC will basically just boot loop only reaching this point before restarting or blue screening. Occasionally it will make it to the Windows Recovery screen but even if it does It will either blue screen shortly after or after whatever option I try to choose. It will also blue screen when trying to use a windows installer on a usb stick.

I will typically get the BSOD code "irql_not_less_or_equal" but occasionally I'll get "kmode exception not handled" as well as others.

Here is a list of what I have tried so far:

* Several other drives/sata ports/sata cables/usb installer drives

* An old power supply that I know works

* all combinations of the ram sticks in every slot including single sticks

* I tried to install ubuntu from a usb stick but it would just got to a black screen after selecting "Try or Install Ubuntu" and hang forever

* I installed windows 10 on a ssd that I connected via usb but it had the same problems

* Swapped motherboards but the same problems persist

* Ran memtest which gave no errors on either ram stick

* Swapped RX 570 for an older GTX 660 but problems still persist

* Tried turning off secure boot and other boot options but still no luck

* Tried installing from a windows 7 cd but still got a blue screen

At this point I am down to it being a ram or CPU problem, but given that I did a memtest which gave no errors I'm leaning towards CPU. I'm going to attempt to get a replacement one soon but in the mean time I figured I ask here if there is anything else I should try to solve the problem.

I think you're on the right track, I would test a different kit of Ram in it first before fussing with the CPU, as Ram is cheaper and easier to get ahold of. If a completely separate kit of Ram doesn't fix the BSODs then I would say you're safe to replace the CPU.

You can try to update bios, sometimes it helps, at least reset bios, they might have some nonsensical values set ( unlikely, but worth a shot).

In most cases this is a solid step, however, OP has already replaced the motherboard with an entirely new one that is a different make and model with a completely different Bios so resetting it here won't exactly do too much and has technically already been done.

Oh sorry, that somehow didn't register with me. Dumb comments happen 😂. Well I guess it's CPU issue then, as you have replaced everything already, except it.

Ya I feel like updating the bios won't be much help but per your ram idea I do have a new pair on its way so maybe that will solve it

It may. If it doesn't I'm pretty sure it's your CPU just with what you've already done I don't think it can be anything else.

Ya I guess all I can do now is try the new ram and if that fails I'll have to try and replace the cpu, thanks you your help
