So i have recently have had friends over to play some games with our pc, most of the games worked alright with my internet  connection, but for some of the games, gaming over wireless is just not working. I have never done any LAN gaming what so ever, what is the equipment i need to connect all the pc and what do i need to to, to still be able to play online but also have lan games?

I and my friend group do time to time LAN parties and a friend of mine has got a 10 way switch (I don't know which model and brand it is) and till now we don't have any issues.

I've found an TP Link Switch, it has got 5 lan ports and may solve your current issue.

I do suggest looking in to more switches since there are a lot of them for different scenarios and such.

IDK how many port you need but you can use two of the ports to connect to your router so nobody gets bottlenecked when connection to the internet then the six to your computers also buy your cables from MonoPrice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817111039&ignorebbr=1

Get a gigabit switch and run a Ethernet cable from your router to where you LAN than just connect each PC to Ethernet and you will all have pretty good internet for gaming. plus LAN will be lightning fast.

Here is a gigabit switch that would work. I don't have this specific switch so you might want to do some research but I cant see why this one wouldn't work.

I used to run LAN parties in my yesteryears :D Here's my totally professional diagram to help you out with the connection idea.

  • Red lines are ethernet cables, have the switch as close to your group as possible to cut down on ethernet cable mess
  • Your modem/router is where the internet gets to you, it just needs to connect to the switch
  • The switch should be an unmanaged gigabit switch for best performance overall. Some folks above have recommended some :)

People connect the ethernet cables, the router source should manage the connected devices, and you should all be able to internet and pew pew together. :D

Yeah wireless doesn't work very well with LAN activities with a lot of clients. Do what everyone else has said, get a 8 port or more switch which aren't that expensive and have everyone hard connect to it and make sure you have one port going over to a port on your router for internet connectivity. If you don't need the internet then you can just hook all of the computers up to the switch and everything should work swimmingly especially if you all have gig Nic's and the switch is a gig it will be very fast and shouldn't give you heck.

I have to host a LAN party soon sounds fun as heckles.
