Help me pick a headset

Hey all, new guy here.

 

I finally decided to go wireless, until now I was using DT 990 Pro 250Ohm with a DAC.

 

I am trying to decide between Steelseries 9X and Corsair Virtuoso XT. I've been doing dome basic testing with both and each has their pros and cons. I like that the Steelseries automatically switches the audio output when turned on and off, corsair doesn't. The 9X also has better bass response, Corsair sounds cleaner. Corsair is Dolby Atmos compatible, here's where I'd like someone to chime in how and if that is better in games, esp shooters where a good set will help you pinpoint the location of an enemy. I guess my biggest question is whether or not Dolby Atmos worth having.

 

RTINGS scored the 9X higher. I just want some input from someone that has used one or both. TIA

This seems so strange of you to ask us for opinions when you have both headsets on hand and can test them in every setup and scenario that you plan to use them.

You're asking us if Dolby Atmos will help you pinpoint enemies in shooters... why don't you test it yourself? Ultimately it'll depend if you can personally hear the directional accuracy enough to make a difference.

 

The RTINGS score- no- the goal of a review is to help you make a decision before you waste your time. You're already beyond that point because you have both headsets with you. It doesn't matter how they score - which one do YOU like more?

Great, besides Reddit this is the 3rd forum I've asked this on and have gotten ZERO help. I guess nobody uses Dolby Atmos.

I think ultimately you're not clearly asking the question.

Does Dolby Atmos matter for gaming? It is my deciding factor between these two headphones.

Although, I do stand behind my original comment of YOU doing the work to decide between the two since you have both headsets right there with you.

 

From checking a couple of Reddit threads (like this one), people seem to agree that surround upmixing like Dolby Atmos makes the sounds worse. It smears the sound and kind of echoes it around you.

 

However LTT actually has a video about surround headphones. Their testing shows that software like Dolby Atmos DOES make a difference.

 

So with this in mind, do you like the clearer sound of the Corsair, or the better bass response of the Steelseries?
