Anyone know what's causing this?

Go to solution Solved by ThatGuyErik,

well seems I've found the issue I think, went to swap out ram sticks and reseated my gpu in the process and it seems that my games aren't crashing and my performance is what it was prior to this issue. it wasn't even the ram that was the issue, it seems that my gpu was unseated just enough to cause issues. im going to continue to test it tonight and tomorrow but for now im going to mark this as solved.

This started a few days ago but windows wouldn't report any program crashing it specifically till now. Anyone knows what causing armoury crate to do this.

The only time my pc has been crashing is when I started playing valheim with a friend. (its started happening in other games now)

make sure armoury crate is up to date.  you can download the latest version from the Asus website and just install it over the old version

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

Anyone happen to know what's causing this issue. I cant tell what's wrong and I'm at my wits end. I ran sfc scannow and windows said I had some corrupted files but it said it replaced them successfully.

I also have nothing to go off for crash logs as my pc completely freezes but doesn't shutdown I have to shut it down myself. I have no idea why but windows is just not generating crash dumps.
If anyone has any ideas on what the issue might be please do tell.

The crashing is weird, it freezes my pc when in a game at random and will stay that way till I turn it off (doesn't have this issue at all when doing anything else but playing a game). When it freezes sometimes I can still hear my friends in discord or hear the game still but the screen is frozen (sometimes when it freezes I can still see the green bubble appear on people in discord when talking)

Have you tried backing up your data (documents, pictures, save files, etc.) and reformatting your pc?

I would recommend reformatting your pc, and redownloading your drivers (from the motherboard manufacturer's website (usually support -> downloads -> chipset, audio, lan, etc.)) including your video drivers (nvidia or amd). If the issue persists, let us know.

reformatting your pc

I reformat a lot because of random windows errors. Its honestly become second nature to me, just get a clean install of windows usually fixes all my problems and makes me double check what i actually need installed on my computer. I probably reinstall at least once a year.

Trying to debug the problem and find what it is will take much longer than moving your important files and then reformatting. You could be done in an hour if you know what you're doing (with one drive back up i'm usually done and downloading halo on my fresh install in a half hour)

haven't done this yet and was planning on doing this as a last resort as I don't have a super recent backup so I'd be transferring files but I may do it tomorrow to see it if works. (I hve done this in the past however so I have a backup from a few months ago)

Chkdsk c: /scan?

I updated a my BIOS a whole ago (around 6 months) and amd chipset from armoury crate a few days ago when the issue started and still had the issue but I can install it from amd to see if it would be any different.

No difference since turning off d.o.c.p.

Haven't check with Crystal Disk Info in a while but I had to remove a dead ssd from my pc a while ago (six months) and it was fine then with Crystal Disk Info and Samsung Magician. I had updated the 970 then too.

already ran chkdsk c: /scan last night to no avail

I can do the few that I haven't done later today but I was super lucky that a thunderstorm rolled in tonight so I can't do any of that at the moment. I will update later when I have though. If anyone else has any ideas on what to do please message in the thread. (Im willing to try anything that may help)

my gpu drivers shouldn't be the issue as I updated them when the issue started happening and I had to run ddu in safemode (6 months ago) when I thought my gpu had hardware failure cause of a bad ram stick.

1. get cpu-z and check if your memory is running on the speeds(DRAM Frequency x2 = 3600 Mhz) and Channel # Dual

2. time to use Memtest to check your DDR4 Memory

3. because it is so funny do a Cinebench R23 run should be around 17799 pounts in Multi Core test

4. check your event Viewer for tons of error messages.

5. Run Prime95 for CPU und RAM stability

6. Run Furmark for GPU stability

7. Run both to check if your PSU up to your needs and ofcourse stability

I do have a ton of event viewer messages but most of them are useless in telling me if theirs any issueimage.png.0846bb532a188122bbb41b0ae9bac060.png
ran prime95 and it completely froze my pc on its first run and on its second I was barely able to close it after it froze my pc for a bit

I ran furmark for 30 mins without any issue whatsoever

Im testing my system in games now to see if its still gonna crash

That's actually really good practice. I reformat my pc at least once a year. Everyone else in my home, I reformat their pc once every year to year and a half too.

resetting windows didn't work either. I have no idea what the issue with my pc is.

When you say resetting windows do you mean a clean install or did you use the rest function to a backup point you already had? A fresh install is what you need to try, if you already did the later.

it was a fresh install sadly. however I reseated my gpu and put in some other ram stick I had and its running ok at the moment so I'm gonna keep testing it for now till I get my hopes up. I swear if it ends up being a set of dead ram sticks this will be my second time in the span of around 2 years with me getting dead ram sticks.

Your RAM is running the JDEC specs (2133 MHz) instead of XMP. You need to turn on XMP (DOCP) in the BIOS.

What I would sugegst is checking the RAM with PassMark Memtest86. 1 stick at a time (take others out).
