Hey just about 3 weeks ago I got my RTX 3080 (brand new), I ran user benchmark just to see what scores I could get but for some reason my card (even when overclocked) scores in the 6th percentile. This is very frustrating, I feel like I’ve spent money and ended up getting a defective card. Or possibly my motherboard??? any help would be great!

Specs:

GPU: evga RTX 3080 XC3 (Good temps)

CPU: Ryzen 5800x (360 AIO)

Ram: 2x16 3200 cl16

Motherboard: MSI B550 Mortar

PSU: Gold 1000w Corsair

Well on a distribution curve there's always outliers...

But first userbenchmark isn't very precise (I've got widely different results with the same hardware on different runs, and the 2D bench is totally broken on 3000s GPU)  you should bench with say TimeSpy or such

Second what are your clocks, voltage and power consumption ?

Your particular RTX 3080 actually has only one tempature sensor, and Dawid does tech stuff has the same card as you do. His conclusion led to him replacing the cooler with EVGA’s AIO cooler. I’m not sure, but I think he said that the VRAM wasn’t cooled well enough. Although I have seen people put copper blocks on top of the VRAM to improve temps (on different RTX 3080’s). My recommendation is to either use K5 Pro Viscous thermal material, or copper mod your VRAM.

Hope this helps.

Soo... what kind of scores rating you were expecting actually?

How was it's performance in real life usage?

IIRC, most 3080 suffers throttle from a bad vram thermal, only a few select models out there have a good / better cooling for it. Like FTW3, Rog Strix, Suprim, and the hybrid models.
Also, idk about that benchmarking software, so idk if the rating you get is just between other XC3, or againts the whole array of 3080 models out there.

You can also improve thermals by applying new/better/more pads on the VRAM chips, did it on my Gigabyte Eagle (before watercooling the GPU eventually) and got like -15C on the mem junction

Well, yeah.

Although, if it's my country, opening it up means breaking the local distributor seal, and voids local warranty right away.
(a.k.a if shit hits the gpu fan, they will reject my RMA claim, and I will have to send it myself to manufacturer HQ overseas)
Dunno about OP's country though.

Was only pointing out :
1. Vram abysmall thermal is something
that 3080 suffers from, while not all model have multiple thermal sensors, so temp might seem good at a glance only.
2. No need to get depressed over a benchmarking score from a questionable/erratic synthetic software. As long the real life usage perf is good.
3. There is various models of 3080, from low end to high end, each have different cooling perf, power limit, etc.
4. At least test it using a less obscure / erratic synthetic software, maybe something like Heaven. And compare it to other score of the same model. Factory settings. If it's to get an answer for "Is something wrong with my card"

We haven't even talked about lottery yet. xD
