Is the avermedia live gamer hd still a good choice for streaming/recording? Most of the websites that I have been to have a three star review on them.

If they are the best choice as of now, what is?

I use an external Elgato HD to capture and stream - really good quality and easy to use unit, the software is actually decent

 

blackmagic also make really good capture cards and shuttles

I'm looking for PC recording not console recording or does it do this also? It didn't look so from the picture.

I have literally never recorded console footage

 

Yep HDMI out of my PC - into the box, and then hdmi from the box into my monitor - USB cable into my pc.. open up recording software and press record

are you looking at pci-e or external the only two i have had is the live gamer portable and the live gamer hd i would go with the pci-e based one

I am quite happy with mine :) also means you can record consoles or mobile phone games or anything that connects to it basically if you want to record/stream them

I would prefer a pcie one but it looks like from the comments that the avermedia pcie cards' drivers are never updated.

the reason why there are no updates is because there really is not any problems with there drivers
