Hello 🙂

I am building a NAS out of an old dell PC (for fun/learning/backing up my data).

The case I am building it in is an old server case (because it was a new in box barn find) the case is an intel SC5100 I believe from 2002?!?. My question is as follows: the server case has some hot swap bays but they aren't SATA (as far as I can tell) and they connect to the motherboard via some ribbon cable. What are these connectors? are they still used? Can I get some adapters to connect via these to a non-server mother board?

Pictures attached.

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

Parallel SEXY 80 pin connectors. Could be converted to ATA then SATA but the speeds would be painfully slow lol

Still a great find

I think if I have all those adapters the hot swap bays wouldnt work as intended anyway ahaha.

At least I can still build my NAS inside it 🙂

One SATA SSD will be faster than anything you can plug into that SCSI backplane, and I think the largest Ultra SCSI 320 drives were just 300 gigs, anyway.

Just get a couple modern SATA drives. Leave old SCSI tech in the past.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Not to mention reliable. A new drive should be much more reliable than a 20 year old drive.
