So with Linus positive review of the LG 21:9 monitor he mentioned compatible 21:9 games are really good. So this brought a question to my mind. To my knowledge any game will run at the resolution if selected, and it will be scaled to fit properly (making look bad). I also know that on cut scenes there will be black bars on the sides. So, if I am right why would there a game compatibility issue? If it going to look bad well that's not compatibility just a negative for the monitor and gaming.

Am I out to lunch or missing something?

There are games that will scale itself for 21:9(like battlefield 4)but some games can't have custom resolutions(like AC4) and will just go to 16:9 with black bars on the side.

Some games will only go to 16:9 ratio so you will then have black bars on the sides but for a lot of games they will have 21:9 and no black bars on the sides which are all games that support eyefinity or surround.

That all depends on thee game, some may not scale well, so they stretch or stuff like that, the text may not scale well either which is the bigger problem, some cut scenes are actually actually rendered in-game as in playing a demo of CS for example, so there shouldn't be black bars on the sides if that's the case, the main problem is text scaling, because there shouldn't be much of a problem with the game itself, but more with the text and hud scaling AFAIK. Please correct me if I am wrong

The thing is that some support the aspect ratio but don't scale well, and I think you should be able to modify the res of any game by changing the config files regardless of what it supports
