Greetings,

I have recently run into a problem and would request help fixing it.

I have an Dell Inspiron laptop on which I wanted to install an Solid State Drive to make it faster, I installed an 128GB SSD and used a Hard Drive Caddy to install my existing 1TB Hard Drive as well.

For back up of my data I made a windows image from the Windows 10 settings.

I have installed Windows on my SSD and want to recover the above mentioned data. For this purpose I made a bootable USB drive and went ahead and clicked on Repair My Computer when prompted, on the recovery screen I selected the WIndows Image Recovery option. My image shows there but it shows some error.

The windows image is in the .vhdx format.

I wish to recover 2 folder inside the windows users namely pictures and 3d objects.

Not really sure how to proceed.

Need your help.

Thanking you.

So you reinstalled windows and you only want those folders?

Then in your new windows install right click the vhdx file to mount it as a drive and copy the data over.

I cant seem to open up the WindowsImageBackup on the same laptop.

I actually copied the files (Windows10Upgrade and WindowsImageBackup) to another laptop(say laptopB) running windows 7 and cant actually find the mount option on LaptopB.

And on my original laptop(say laptopA) i cant open the WindowsImageBackup folder.

Try disk management (file > attach vhd)

Thank you for replying,

I did that but at first it shows that the media is write protected.

Then I checked the read-only box, and was able to attach the file but i cannot see any option to open it in the disk management window neither in My Pc as a separate drive
