budget: £300 (including drive/s)

main use: plex server (4k streaming if possible) and remote storage / backups

update: considering a Synology DS218 with an ironwolf drive. just barely keeps within budget but after even more searching and a couple of messages from you lovely people this seems like a good choice. if you have any other recommendations please feel free to help me dodge a bullet

i am not particularly well versed in nas' and after a bit of searching i feel like i have come up short ? i am genuinely unsure where to keep looking or even how to tell if a nas meets my requirements.

minimum ram needed for quality streaming being a recurring one that has varying results

would any of the kind fellows in this forum help me on my endeavour

If you want help it'd probably be useful to give more details, like how many drives you want, capacity, etc etc.

thankyou, sorry. for now i am going to only go with one 4tb drive for now but i would prefer a 2 drive system for the sake of future upgrading. i had a look at a few synology ones (DS218 specifically) and it does look good

I'm in the US, so I don't know how prices/stock compares in the UK, but if you can get a DS220+ instead of a DS218 it will work better with Plex.  The DS220+ has a proper Intel CPU with QuickSync Video, which should work for hardware transcoding in Plex.  I'm running my Plex server on a DS418play, which has a slighter older Intel CPU than the DS220+, and mine works great for a few transcodes.
