Ive been watching some reviews on a gpu that ill be pairing with my cpu but on esports titles the cpu is at 40% util and gpu is 70% util.Is there some explanation here? does it take that long for devs to utilize more than 4 cores?

We really need to know what CPU and GPU your talking about......

And there is A LOT more to it then just how many cores you have. Old Xeon's could have upwards of 16 cores, and run at 2.2 GHz with horrible IPC and would get about 20 FPS in a modern game with a 3090 ti at 1080p

That’ll be fine. The 3050 may be a little faster then the 10400, but that isn’t “a bad” idea or anything.

i5 10400 and rtx 3050 1080p res competetive setting apex legends,val,etc

What fps are you getting? I don't get a CPU bottleneck in those games, I have the same CPU and an RX 5500 XT 8gb (slightly slower than 3050). Even with a 2060 I still get GPU bottleneck.

Do you have an FPS limiter? I know Apex has vsync enabled by default

Are you running dual-channel memory?

The i5 10400 and RTX 3050 are basically a perfect pairing, so that's not a problem. Also, if you are using competetive settings, you should expect sub-90% utilization for the GPU. The GPU just doesn't have to work that hard to render the blocky, low-res polygon fighters in eSports games at high framerates.
