I found an additional 240hz monitor lying around and thought I'd use it as a discord monitor (portrait mode) but when I activate portrait mode it caps itself to 60hz. is there a way to get around this or is it meant to only be 60hz in portrait mode?
The monitor works in 240hz in both hdmi and dp so that's nice!

I tried switching out cables, changing which output and also trying with display port but nothing appears to help it achieve higher than 60hz in portrait mode.

Curious what you mean by “lying around”. It’s not like it got pulled off some ancient machine in the basement if it’s 240hz.

“Meant” might be strong. It seems to me like a bizarre artificial and/or accidental limitation.  All you’re really doing is running a 90° orientation change.   Portrait monitors are generally used for text stuff so I can see how a high refresh portrait monitor isn’t something most people would normally have use for. I’ve never used a swivel screen monitor in windows so I don’t know where this mode thing is coming from. I’ve only used them in really old macs back before more than 60hz was even a thing.  I take it this is some sort of automagical ‘turn the monitor and it just works’ kind of thing.  I don’t know if this is a windows standard or something internal to the monitor.  This seems like it would be a permanent installation.  Have you tried disconnecting everything, turning it off, swiveling the monitor while off, then connecting it? Might be stupid.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

portrait mode is unfortunately not an automatic thing since I have to go into display settings and switch it from "Landscape" to "Portrait" but on the internet it says that a lot of monitor as able to do 144hz at least on portrait mode

it works just as it's meant to work (240hz) when it's on landscape (normal) mode but capped at 60hz in "Portrait" mode
