Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone could help with this. I've been having an issue with my computer where if I let my computer go to sleep on its own or I CTRL+ALT+DEL and put it to sleep that way, it will go through the process of shutting itself off off and going to sleep. Then after about a second it will wake back up again. I can't figure out what is wrong. The sleep settings haven't been changed I am sure that when the computer goes to sleep the mouse nor the keyboard gets touched to wake the computer back up. I've shut down the computer, unplugged the PSU and let it sit for several hours then tried again and nothing. This started happening after a Windows update and after a Nvidia drivers update. I'm hoping someone may have an idea of how to fix this or I'll probably just reinstall Windows and hope that works.

Thank you!

If it's an optical mouse, it could be wigging out if it is on a surface that triggers it. Mine will do it if on a fake wood grain or something, because it occasionally sees something it didn't see before that makes it think it was moved.

I don't badmouth others' input, I'd appreciate others not badmouthing mine. *** More below ***

I appreciate the response, I don't think this could be it, during the shut down process I've unplugged the mouse and keyboards and it will still come back on.

Likely the culprit, Microsoft could screw up a one-car funeral.

There's an easier way than to reinstall though. You can uninstall updates.

Right after your system wakes up, open the command prompt /Terminal and type and execute:

powercfg /lastwake

This will tell you which hardware/peripheral has waken the system from sleep.

Typically, the issue is as follows:

  • Wake on LAN/Alarm feature turn on on Network device.
  • Mouse (especially wired mouse who the wire pushes the mouse ever so slightly and makes the system wake up)

If it says that there is no device that woke up the system, then it means it failed to sleep.

You can open command prompt / Terminal as Admin, navigate to the root C:\, and type and execute:

powercfg /energy and a report will be generated in that location. Double click on it to view. I think it was called energy.mhtml if memory serves correct
