Hey there,

I am interested in buying a r9 280x but i am stuck on what brand to get. I have been comparing them a lot and think that I am between the Asus R9280-DC2T-3gd5 card and the XFX Double D R9-280x-TDFD card. Any thoughts on these?? If neither of these cards could you suggest me to one that might be good? One last thing is that I have 3 monitors I am playing on currently with a 7790, but will this kind of card get the job done (as in I'm not necessarily looking to have "ultra" on bf4)?

Thanks for the help!!!

You should be able to get pretty close to ultra on BF4 with any 280x. Maybe not with AA... and you won't be getting 120+fps... but it should be a pretty easy 60.

At any rate... due to my recent experiences with XFX and from what I've read on various forums about them recently... I'd go for the Asus.

don't even borther with the asus r9 280 or the r9 280x in general.. ive got the Asus and it artifacts like crazy and ive only had it for about a week now.. i did some research on it and apparently every other brand is the same, and im not the only one with the problem. In other words its a pretty high chance that you will get a screwed up r9 280x if yu were to buy one. I say get a gtx 770 or pay 100ish more for a r9 290.

I have a friend with the xfx card, he says it runs pretty cool in his build. and i believe it should be able to push out to three monitors, but you'll definitely have to turn your settings down, and possibly your resolution. I find running my games somewhere between 720 and 1080 gives me better performance than 1080, but definitely better quality than 720. Aim for about 900 and crank your graphics settings up from there, youd be surprised what you can get.

I've never understood how people can play at lower resolutions. Just makes everything look blurry to me.

Resolution > Graphics quality...

Resolution > Graphics quality...

That's the thing about it though, you have to find the sweet spot. Turning it down DOES make it more blurry, I fully agree. However, when you turn it down even a little bit, you get massive frame jumps. (At least I do.) After you get to those good fps, then slowly turn things up like AA and your graphics detail. With some games I come out looking clearer and crisper at about 900 then I do at 1080, and I can still manage to keep my fps higher than what it was at 1080p. It varies from game to game, but my 3 top games that I saw this kind of improvement were Titanfall, Battlefield 3, and Arkham City. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, It all boils down to what you consider to be a good playing experience in the end, so try lots of different configurations and see what you come up with. Sometimes you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you can achieve.
