Hi 🙂

Which is the best B550 for this configuration?

Ryzen 5900x
32GB RAM
RTX 3070

MSI MPG B550 Gaming Carbon WiFi

or

ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi

I need a MOBO that comes with WiFi 6 and LAN 2.5GB

Or it's better to go for an X570?

I hope you can help me.

Thanks!

You can't go wrong with either of those boards. If you would like to fit it into your budget, you could go with a x570 like the Aorus Master.

When picking a motherboard, go for this cheapest one that has a good enough VRM for what you need, all the features you should need, no known annoyances or other issues, and you find aesthetically pleasing. Basically every B550 board that's more than $130 has a VRM good enough for the 5900X, so you don't really need to worry about that, so basically you just need to find the cheapest board that has WiFi 6, 2.5Gb LAN, and any other features you might want (I.E. debug LEDs), you find aesthetically pleasing (depending on if you care, given the boards you're looking at I'd assume you do), then do a quick google search to make sure there's not any issues reported with it.

Right now, the cheapest board that has all those features is the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2, though that doesn't have any Debug LEDs so I'd have a hard time recommending it (it's very annoying to troubleshoot boards without them). The ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus WiFi II does have them for not much more, so it's the board I'd go for.

As for X570 vs. B550, there are 3 differences between them

  1. X570 has better IOMMU support
  2. X570 has full PCIe 4.0 support if you need multiple Gen 4 PCIe devices
  3. X570 has support for more IO. Whether or not a particular motherboard actually uses that is a different story.

Basically, while there are advantages to go X570, it really depends on if the board actually uses them. IMO there is no reason to go for an X570 board for less than $250 because the ones cheaper than that do not use any of the advantages they have over B550, and the B550 boards are usually cheaper and/or better built for the same price. If the board you're looking at has the B550 and X570 version be the same price with no downsides to the X570 version for you (I.E. The X570 Taichi does not have 2.5Gb ethernet while the B550 Taichi does), I'd go for the X570 version, but there are very few instances of that actually occurring.

Both of those are good options. I'd also look at the MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi, as its generally cheaper than the Carbon but has the same VRMs. It's been excellent for me with my 5900X - the Intel WiFi 6 on board works great.

Oh nice, I'm going to check out the EDGE model.

The Aorus Master X570 is so beautiful.

Amazing explanation my friend, I appreciate it.

Very useful, really.

Thanks!

Any other recommendation or suggestion?

The other boards that meet your specifications, have decent VRMs, haven't already been mentioned, and don't exceed the price of the Carbon (which is the most expensive board mentioned so far) are the MSI B550M Mortar WiFi, Asrock B550 Taichi, MSI B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi, MSI X570 Tomahawk WiFi, Asus ROG Strix B550-I Gaming, Asus TUF Gaming X570-Pro WiFi, and MSI X570S Tomahawk Max WiFi

Of those, if you want MicroATX, the Mortar is a good board, and if you want Mini-ITX, then there's the Strix B550-I. If you want to go X570 instead, I'd actually lean towards the MSI X570S Tomahawk Max, because it drops the chipset fan, which was a common complaint about the original X570 boards. (This is what sets apart X570S boards.) While the X570S Tomahawk is more expensive than the original Tomahawk or the TUF Gaming X570-Pro, if you want to go X570 instead of B550, I think the S is worth it. If you want to get the cheapest board possible that meets your needs, then the aforementioned Asus TUF Gaming B550-PLUS WiFi is a good choice at $173.

Otherwise, the MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi is still my recommendation. At $190, I think it offers solid value, which is why I picked it for my own build. However, if one of the other boards mentioned here, or one of your original choices, really speaks to you, I don't think you'd be wrong to go another way. I almost picked the B550-F myself, to be honest.

Asrock B550 Taichi

Personally I'd go this over the Gaming Edge. Yeah it's $10 more but the Taichi is basically the maxed out B550 feature set for $200. The only thing you could realistically want from that board is a 3rd M.2 slot.

I have the Strix -F and it’s been a solid board. I also have the Strix XE, and it’s better.

You probably can’t go wrong, the boards have been out for awhile now, and the bios is mature, so it shouldn’t matter too much who you go with. I am an Asus guy, but just for the ROG stuff. The lower end stuff isn’t really that good imo.
