Parts in question:

-msi Mag X570 Tomahawk WiFi

-Samsung 970 Evo Plus (x2)

This is my first build. I bought 2 samsung nvme's. For the top one there is a standoff far from the 2280 slot dedicated for the thermal pad. The first drive is installed no problem.  For the bottom slot, the 2280 slot is as far as it goes. No additional standoff for the thermal pad (as it's the length of a 2280)

My question: would it be safe to use the thermal pad itself to screw in the bottom drive as well as the thermal pad at the same time? The pad makes full contact with the drive and it seems like it fits just fine and the screw is the right length to secure through the drive slot and go into the standoff. But before I go any further with this build, I wanted to make sure this won't hurt anything

The listing on amazon didn't specify max length nvme's, nor does the manual mention this at all. Just how to install. Thanks for any info!20220506_151706.thumb.jpg.056501f3439049244a047fafb3831972.jpg

I believe that's exactly what you're expected to do. Just so we're clear we're talking about the heatsinks, correct? The lower one is shorter and yeah just is going to have to screw through the heatsink into the standoff holding the SSD down.

No big deal, as long as something its holding it down it'll be fine.
