Strange 90s mac`

stpworld

Does anyone know what kind of mac this is it was custom built for Virginia tech in the 90s not much information other then that.  Its way faster then most of them from that time to.  It also has an optical floppy instead of a floppy drive and a VGA out instead of that proprietary thing they like to use.  It seems to have extra vram to I think it was for ultra sound if I can recall what the seller told me.

This system is, essentially, a Macintosh Quadra 650 logic board placed into a custom aluminum case, with a SCSI magneto-optical drive replacing the floppy drive.

Before Steve jobs came back in 97 and changed the licence agreement you could get a licence to produce Macintosh clones. Probably one of those.

Edit:

According to Wikipedia it is a clone, the Aegis was a licenced clone produced by UMAX technologies
