Budget (including currency): 1000 CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Long term daily use and gaming.

Other details:

Will pull the trigger later in the year, beginning the planning early as I intend to be using this platform for the next 8 or so years. For those who know me, I was running a 1100T until fairly recently so expect similar longevity with this new build.

Currently planning to upgrade only the platform at the moment, leaving the GPU out until kidneys don't need to be sold for one. I will be carrying over a HD 7850 OC until something more than a RTX 3050 is attenable at 500 bucks or less.

Current FX system is currently experiencing severe stuttering, system lockups, and frame drops in-game. Most probably has to do with the CPU OC but it's essentially required if I want to be out of slideshow territory. So this is merely a stop gap to prevent me from Toto-smashing the desk whenever the FX inevitably hard lockups mid-match or slideshows at crucial moments.

I do have a spare 500W EVGA PSU but I can also carry over my current 600W OCZ (hopefully the EPS cable is long enough).

Adding the ASUS Prime Z690-P D4 as an option. Given the delta of 35 bucks and the main difference I can tell is the ATX form-factor and 2.5GB Realtek NIC, is it worth getting over the Z690M-Plus D4 for one using this for years to come?

With current CPU and GPU competition, it is very unlikely any platform will last 8+ years anymore. There was about 10 years of AMD not really participating in the CPU space which is why we had CPU's that last 10+ years. At best, you could get the best CPU today and maybe it will be good for 5 years. This will still depend on what you use your computer for and how games will evolve as they have more access to higher core/thread count CPU's.

If you're more of a AAA gamer, hardware will probably last 3-5 years before feeling slow. If you only play games of this gen or indie games, any current hardware will play it until they actually die.

For your build:

If you can afford going to 12700 (K or non-K), I think that's one of the best current long term CPU's

MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 is the motherboard I would recommend due to better build quality and better VRM's (keeps things from overheating)

You can get a 1TB NVME drive for a similar price and performance:

Storage: ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($119.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Storage: Western Digital WD_BLACK SN750 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($139.99 @ Western Digital)
Storage: Team MP34 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($130.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Mushkin Enhanced Pilot-E 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($142.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Storage: Silicon Power P34A80 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($121.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Storage: PNY CS2130 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($155.21 @ Amazon Canada)

I would recommend the airflow version of the case you are going with
