Ok y’all

stop trashing on how the notch was a horrible design decision. It wasn’t.

sure, it’s annoying now that all screen fronts  are possible, but when it came out the notch was amazing.

it moved the icons that would usually take up space up into what used to be the bezel. It’s not an intrusion into the screen space, it’s a bezel With sides missing to to put the time and battery icons

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Yeah, it was an interesting 'innovation' on the iPhone X - but it's kind of wild how it's survived for 5 years even as other phones came up with other less ugly solutions

Eh, It works fine. I really like my fingerprint sensor, and FaceID is just one of those things I really am not interested in. Compared to other phones, this may be an outdated solution, but if it works well why change it? I never saw an iPhone after the X that made me think, "man, I wish I had 1/4th in extra screen". Maybe on the Mini models, but a fingerprint sensor takes up more room so the point is moot.

Yes, it was an innovation for the time, but in the video even something was said about how it was never a good idea, which is what I take issue with

It was and it made the entire smartphone industry worse

That problem was already solved better by thinner bezels like the S9 had

Thinner bezels, and then you put the front camera and speaker... where?

But those icons are all on the main part of the screen then

they still take up screen space, the notch design literally just moved them into the bezel

The speaker can go in the edge where the front and sides meet, the front camera ends up having the front lens be smaller

The screen area to the left and right of notch is rarely used in my experience anyway. It's a feature in the iOS SDK to add black bars to block out that small bit of screen space.

thinner bezels and slightly taller screens were the solution to adding screen real estate without compromising ergonomics. instead we got phones you can't even hold well without covering part of the screen and camera cutouts making the space you gained useless.

compensated for by the taller screen. when you need to see the icons you can easily fit them in without taking out much app space, on the other hand when you're watching a widescreen video you don't get a stupid hole in the middle of it.

those bezels are the same thickness as the notch, and theyres not a bottom bezel at all really.....

And im not sure what you mean by holding a phone and covering part of the screen, ive never had an issue like that.....
