Had a very short convo with one of the devs yesterday, with some rather heavy ideas imparted in a very short time.

1 Mass will not, atm, be limited in cargo containers, just volume

2 where you put the mass in your ship will be very important.

3 while you won't have a hard mass limit, atm, but at some point your ship will stop moving, and that might be an issue.

4 my spread sheet might not be able to handle the complex math needed for some of this.

I remember on Wingman's, I think, they talked about how you place your cargo is up to you, but you'll also have the choice of tying it down? Or securing it? Curious to see how this works as well. Shouldn't be much of an issue since there's now looking to be a standard cargo container since it's a fixed volume as you stated.

oh yeah, dude if you don't secure your containers, they will shift and throw off your center of mass, and will probably result in the spin of death and or massive damage to your cargo and hold, and anyone in the hold.

Wonder if you can loot bodies of passengers......

unconfirmed, maybe?

Many "accidents" waiting to happen. Wonderful!

Imagine if you could process the same chart into the game as a message. So people could have an actual stat list in game in a message system or something. So our pirate/merc groups see a potential target ship, depending on where they came from they could on the fly work out some numbers on if it's worth attacking.

well without a cargo scan it would be hard, but I could identify certain ports and the major exports and thus list possible cargo loads being exported and which ships would possibly be carrying those loads. thus allowing them to better select targets in general for the area they are in.

Sounds like a job for our future think tank.

YA that would be cool to have a cheat sheet to work out the max velocity of ship without cargo and and then enter the current velocity and be able to calc. approx mass of cargo.

ok so I've been working on a payload layout and center of mass thing, it's the second to last sheet on the right, with the cutlass work in progess to the right of that. anyone mind looking at it and making sure I'm not completly in the weeds here?

I'd love to help, but I'm not quite sure I can read it right :P

Btw. shouldn't your hard work be somehow hidden from the hungry eyes of the whole world? In some super secret LTT safe?

I should note that having a rediculous amount of mass in your ship would not keep you from moving EVER, it would just limit acceleration to something incredibly small (.001m/s^2 or the like) because without any outside friction, there is no other forces acting on the ship besides the thrusters. as a result, in order for the mass to render the ship immobile it would need to be an infinite amount of mass.

this is because F=MA, and if we have a defined force 1000N, and a 1,000,000,000Kg ship, then acceleration would be A=(1000)/(1,000,000,000)=.000001m/s^2

this ship would move, just incredibly slowly.

sorry, I figured this technicality needed to be pointed out. other than that, I love your spreadsheets!

So the Avenger is now a zoom and boom ship with a class 2 size 5 nose turret (A-10 wee)

Expect to have either power issues or overheating issues (depending if you mount an energy or projectile weapon) if you do mount a size 5 though :P

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
