Cracked LG 27BL85U-W (Bezels Might Be Good For Displays After All)

I am starting wonder if bezels on the edge of a PC display may be a necessary cosmetic evil.  I was attempting to clean the back my monitor and while holding it tight, I had brain fart (not paying attention) and unknowing pressed the spray bottle nozzle hard against screen and cracked it (see top crack in attached image).  I initially thought I was holding the screen too tight and caused the large round black spot (which grew).

I tried to replicate the bruising/crack by squeezing the screen with my fingers and I could not replicate it. I tried to replicate the bruise/crack by pressing hard on the display (in various spots) with a hard plastic object similar to the spray bottle and could replicate the bruise/crack until....I press the hard object (plastic edge of a small black & decker measuring tape) at the very edge of the screen and I heard a subtle crack sound!!!!  See lower crack in attached image.

To put this in some level of perspective, I took a food scale in grams and applied what perceived to be the same force I applied to the monitor (middle, side and edge) and it was: Plastic object: +/-2,500 grams (5.5lbs) and My Thumb: 4,500-5,000 grams (11lbs). On the edge where I cracked it (see lower crack in the attached image) I may have used about an estimated 2,000 grams to 3,000 grams of force (I can not give in Lbs per square inch).

This got me wondering if a bezel would mitigate such damage.  The edge of the display appears to be the most vulnerable area of the glass display (or whatever material it is).  If it not produced already it would be great if LTT could do a video on the ease or difficulty to crack a display and where the damage is more likely to happen.  I am not talking about dropping the display or hitting it with a hammer!!

Just think picking up a display in rush or and holding it too tight at the display edge while cleaning it could result in a crack. I constantly moved my display to set it up in front of my bicycle for my indoor bicycle training sessions (thus the white back cover got lightly smudged with fingerprints from handling the bicycle over a period of time).

Now I have to find a replacement display (thanks LTT for your monitor screen replacement tutorial, I was able to find the replacement screen online but need to find a vendor I feel safe with) or pay up to $800USD to replace a $450USD-$550USD monitor.  Shipping to Bermuda is pricey and Bermuda importation tax is 22% or 33.33% on computer hardware. I really hope LG, Newegg or B&H can sell me a new replacement screen.  The unit pass any warranty dates.

To Bezel or Not Bezel?!?!?!

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to buy a whole new monitor?
