Budget (including currency): Approx £1000 (GBP)

Country:  UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Sims, StarDew Valley, Maybe Elden Ring (my husband plays on his machine and it looks interesting), I also occasionally use OBS for YouTube streaming to test the set up for my local church, as well as using Zoom. I work with data so may end up have SQL Server on here at some point.  Also use to watch Movies / Netflix and browse the internet.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I got a graphics card Nov 2020 (MSI NVidia GEFORCE GTX1030) which has helped with some lag, but am still having some issues with running out of memory, my current build was a prebuilt that has 12GB of Ram and won't let me upgrade, so intend on building a new machine as that way when I want to upgrade in the future I can. I have built before but not since 2018 when I was building on a shoe string budget. (Currently I have just been browsing the internet for an hour and my RAM usage is apparently at 67%)

Plans

Core: I7 - 12700K £350 at Amazon (whilst aware that Future Proofing doesn't really exist am hoping that by going for gen 12 it should last me a while)

MotherBoard: msi Pro Z690-A - £190 (I considered the ASUS Prime Intel Z690 but they seemed fairly similar feature wise and the msi one is cheaper)

AIO: LianLi Galahad 240 - £120 ( I considered the Noctua NH-D15 but didn't like that it looks like it could block RAM slots and the top Graphics Board slot which is supposed to be the best one to use)

Case: LianLi Lancool 205 Mesh - £90

Ram: 16GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 (Aware that going for 2 8GB would mean I could go to dual channel but it increases the budget and I intend on getting a second 16GB down the road) - £130

Storage: WD Blue SN (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09HKG6SDF/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1) -£45

edit: WD Blue SN570 500GB M.2 2280 PCIe3 NVME

Graphics - sticking with the GTX1030 I brought Nov 2020 (May upgrade in the future when prices come down)

I currently have my computer plugged into a Samsung TV (sorry don't have exact spec to hand though resolution is 1920 x 1080) and won't be getting a new screen at this point

I suspect I am slightly overspec for the games I play am hoping this will last a while and will have room for me to upgrade in the future without being irritated at a pre build that won't let me change things without buying a whole new machine.

I think that everything meets the requirements to fit in the case and that the AIO won't block my RAM or GPU but if anyone has done a similar build and could confirm or give advise on anything tricky to pay attention to during the build that would be helpful,

Thankyou

Realised I had only put in the brand of storage not the type or size!

Your performance won't be improved at all no matter what you play, You'll be bottlenecked by GPU in everything, Because 1030 is garbage. So you should build full system from 0 including GPU if you want to play something. DDR5 is also waste of money.

So, Balance your system and get something like this:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor (£162.99 @ AWD-IT)

CPU Cooler: Vetroo V5 52 CFM CPU Cooler (£31.99 @ Amazon UK)

Motherboard: Gigabyte B660 GAMING X DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard (£139.99 @ AWD-IT)

Memory: Crucial Ballistix RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory (£58.28 @ Box Limited)

Storage: Western Digital Blue SN570 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (£79.98 @ Scan.co.uk)

Video Card: KFA2 GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB (1-Click OC) Video Card (£416.39 @ Technextday)

Case: Lian Li LANCOOL 215 ATX Mid Tower Case (£83.00 @ Computer Orbit)

Power Supply: NZXT C 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£59.99 @ Scan.co.uk)

Total: £1032.61

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

P.S. Don't mind cooler compatibility error, It's PCPartPicker haven't updated compatibility list, But Vetroo V5 is compatible with this system and is one of the best budget coolers.

Thanks this sounds really helpful - iss DDR4 likely to still be available in 3 years or will I be stuck having to upgrade to a new motherboard? Thats the reason I was going for DDR5  ?

For the price of a single stick of 16GB DDR5 one can get 2x16GB of DDR4-3200 CL16. Given the penalty of running single channel, I suspect the dual channel DDR4 configuration will have better performance.

The NH-D15 and Dark Rock Pro 4, for that matter, do overhang the memory area. Using low profile memory modules makes this irrelevant. If you want taller memory, the NH-D15S has no issues. There is also the more expensive NH-U12A with no memory issues.

When I look on Amazon it says that the Dark Rock pro supports

"Intel: 1200 / 1150 / 1151 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011(-3) Square ILM / 2066 AMD: AM2(+) / AM3(+) / AM4 / FM1 / FM2(+)"

It doesn't mention the LGA 1700 which this Motherboard is? Are you otherwise aware that the Amazon listing is out of date?

Thanks

As you will see in the technical data at https://www.bequiet.com/en/cpucooler/1378, the cooler is compatible with LGA 1700.

Older stock may require a mounting kit, see https://www.bequiet.com/en/contact/lga1700mounting

1030 and Elden Ring is something like max 30fps with drops to 20fps using 720p resolution and low settings. If you want to game, upgrade the gpu to 3060.

Depending on Birthday/Overtime Money I can probably either get the 3050 end of April or May, the 3060 would take a further 2 months of savings (assuming it doesn't go up in price too much) .

Looking at the Game Debate website both meet the requirements for Elden Ring, Is the 3060 going to give enough better game play to justify extra wait (and risk that the price goes up)?

Thanks that makes sense. Guess Amazon is just old stock or not update the site.
