Hi.

I love Thunderbird and for the longest time I wanted to use it as my default email client but I'm picky about looks, mainly fonts in this case. Thunderbird's default fonts are Serif for some reason and just look dated and horrible to look at, expecially coming from the Mail app on my iPhone and apple Mail on my past Mac (now maining a Windows laptop). To explain what Serif blutly means for those who don't know, it's those fonts that have characters end in 90 degrees "feet and hats", as seen expecially in letters that have some sort of straight lines like "d, h, i, l, m, n...". Sans-Seriff are on the other hand those fonts that have characters with straight clean lines with no "feet and hats", this is the best I can explain it.

I think I finally succeded in changing the fonts in the preferences menu but even though they are all Calibri Sans-Serif in my email editor window, when I read the message on the recieving email the message still has a Serif font. Why? How do I change this?

I attached some images:

  • the one with dark theme is the email about to be sent
  • The other one is the message recieved and viewed on thunderbird (the test is been done from my personal email address to my work one, both on thunderbird).
  • The 3rd image, the one with the "reply, reply all..." heading is the same message viewed on my work email on the webmail portal.

As you can se this Serif bull***t is a thunderbird fetish only.

How can I get rid of it?

Thanks.

Did you check that Advanced settings are also correct? Both Firefox and Thunderbird have set of specific settings that don't follow what main setting says.

There's tick box forcing your font over rich text form for incoming mail. Maybe that is where issue is. If not, there might be some addon offering even better control over fonts.

I use localized version, so mind the language. Should be under Advanced settings or something along those lines:

Don't worry about the language, my OS is in Italian...I had a really hard time figuring out what your language is though in order to understand where these options are but I managed to use Google Lens that told me you're Finnish, could be?

I'll be doing some testing now and let you know.

Thank you.
