Here's a pcpartpicker link to your build, sources and pricing will vary:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/An0maly1976/saved/#view=Xst74D

It shows this will work, but be aware that for 5000-series Ryzen, B550 boards may require a BIOS update (requiring a currently supported CPU other than the 5000-series to do the update), as noted by the site.

I don't badmouth others' input, I'd appreciate others not badmouthing mine. *** More below ***

How do i know if the board will need a BIOS update?

You won't until you try it. Depends entirely on when the board was manufactured and which BIOS version it shipped with. Can't tell that without the serial number, and you won't get that until you have it in your hands.

And be aware, my previous rig has an MSI B450M Bazooka. MSI site says this board supports the 5900X processor, but when I spoke to MSI support, they stated that the update could fry the board. Those words exactly. Possibly because mine was built in 2018, and the B550 may not have that issue, but still... I also had issues with this board shutting down because it apparently did not like the GPU I was putting in it. Not a fan of MSI, just saying.

What would you suggest to replace the MSI

This is what I used for my 5900X build, should serve your 5600G quite well....

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088W57M4J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a bit pricier, but the 5000-series chips run a bit hotter than most other Ryzens and this board has VRM cooling to help with that.

To clarify, the BIOS update isn't purely an MSI thing, it's a B450 / B550 + Ryzen 5000-series thing. That could have happened with the board I got too, but it didn't. Fired right up without a hitch and said, "Whatcha want me to do, boss?"

Are there any boards i can get that won't need the update or is it based off of date it was made

Purely by the BIOS version it shipped with, which the build date sort of precludes. However, I figure if the board I got didn't have that problem, same model from the same retailer might be a safe bet. Hardly think that you would get an older one that would need the update after that. The one I got was built Jan 2022.

I revised my previous post to say, same model from the same retailer might be a safe bet. Just to clarify. I'm not an Asus fanboy or anything, but if I have issues with a particular supplier, I just try to steer people clear of those potential issues.

Only thing I see with a potential issue is the board thus far, and that's not guaranteed actually. Just telling you my experience.

I might consider a faster M.2. Nothing wrong with your selected one, but the WD Blue series is a bit faster and not a great deal more expensive. 3600 memory may be a bit much, 3200 will do just fine. I have 2x16 Crucial DDR4-3200 in my 5900X.

Something to consider. I don't know this to be a fact, but I've heard that CPUs with integrated graphics such as the Ryzen G can sometimes conflict with a GPU installed after the fact. No expert on the subject, and I haven't personally seen it, but hopefully someone here who's more savvy in that area can chime in.

It appears like ive accidentally made a white theme build so hope you are ok with that

Cooler is overkill but atleast itll be futureproof incase you upgrade and switch platforms

Ballistix ram cause anything above 3000 bin can do 4500+ cl18, have a look at buildzoid ballistix oc for info on how there rams behave and oc. You really wanna clock them as high as possible while not desyncing fclk since ryzen apus tend to do 2300+ fclk and the faster the ram the better the igpu will perform. Speaking of which run igpu at 1.3-1.4v at 2.3 or 2.4ghz depending on how good your igpu is at oc

The board is a good ram oc board and its cheap too

Everything else was chosen cause cheap and good quality/value

AMD: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZT9D2m
Intel: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rGMWDq
The 12th gen intel cpu's are pretty good and the 12400 is slightly better than the 5600g for about the same price although it depends on which you would prefer
Despite you not wanting a gpu i put one in here just because the gpu prices are going down and some are fairly cheap rn (considering).
case is personal preference although you can go with some other cheaper case if you want, i would currently recommend this if you like a white build https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VL5QHMB?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 i personally dont like white builds but if you dont care i would recommend the corsair case over the Fractal design case (which comes in white, blue, red, grey, or black) one downside of the Fractal Design case is the side panel is acrylic not tempered glass

Currently, the 5600G/5700G is better in terms of iGPU than the 12th gen counterparts. As a CPU though, 12th gen is generally better value. I'd recommend going with AMD for iGPU build though. If you plan to throw a GPU into it in the future, the 5700G for about 70 USD more would be an excellent choice. My recommendation:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor  ($294.00 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B 51.17 CFM CPU Cooler  ($49.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Team T-FORCE DARK Za 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory  ($116.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: ADATA XPG GAMMIX S7 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Corsair 275R Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case  ($54.54 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: BitFenix Formula Gold 750 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply  ($79.90 @ Newegg Sellers)
Total: $815.40
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Little overbudget, but should be ready for a high end GPU (except 3090/6900xt)
