edit: Alienware (never again) windows 10 home , i7 8700, 1080ti, 32gb ram, m.2 OS & 2tb hdd storage.

I’m not sure when it started and it happens so fast I can not screenshot it.
Getting into windows is fine. When I open a program like steam or Minecraft it like being in a game at 2fps slow motion.  The screen with go black sometimes with graphic artifacting. There is also a rectangular box in the upper left corner of the screen.  I’ve tried updating all drivers, doing error checks , uninstalling all games launchers and reinstalling them.  I just use my system for gaming at doing online paperwork.

I suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, ptsd & stress. I also take care of my 87 year old mother & I’ve been unemployed for 2 & half years.

any help would be appreciated very much.
thank you very much.

First because you got artifacts, i would want to test the graphics card. Do you have another one you can test with or do you have access to another system you can test your graphics card with?

But im not so sure that's it. I don't know why but for some reason, i have a wee voice in my head shouting it's the motherboard (because alienware use crap motherboards). But i could be wrong.

I would also look into reinstalling windows and seeing if that helps any. You never know. It might just be os corruption/damage.

I would also advise to run memtest on the memory and chkdsk on the hard drive. Just make sure they're not punking you.

And fyi i also get severe anxiety, panic attacks and depression. I also get mania and psychosis because i have bipolar disorder. So i understand that it will be stressing you out. I know what i'm like in that situation myself. But try and calm down and think about it logically.

Let's try this a different way then since you can't test the card properly.

Download a program called furmark. Get it here.
https://geeks3d.com/furmark/downloads/

Install that then run it. You will see the furmark app. Click on the gpu stress test button and sit back and watch it.

I want you to run that test for 15mns. I want you to watch it carefully. Look out for artifacts. Also there's a graph at the bottom with the temperature of the card.

Tell me if it artifacts or crashes. Also tell me what the temperature is after 15mns.

Update more info.  When I restart the system the problem goes away.  In most cases it happens when I start up the  system.   It started after a windows update.   When I did a sfc scan it did find and fix errors.   Is there another scan or why to check for corruption or errors.  I’m trying everything before trying a wipe and reinstall of windows lol.
