Hi
I'm looking for a new, better cpu than my I7 7700K, I was thinking about the i9 11900K.
I also have an RTX 3070 so what would be the best cpu that i could get for heavy vr games like DCS and 3d developing?

Is the i9 11900K good for this kind of job? Or should I consider another CPU
And what motherboard is the best for this CPU (needs to support 3200mhz ddr4)

consider a 12700k or even a 12600k and a b660 board with 2x16 or 4x8gb of ddr4 3200 or 3600

The 11900k is stupid when you could just get a 12600k that outperforms it for a fraction of the price.  And yeah anything can do it, for 3D your most important trait is gonna be single core speeds so yeah, again I'd say 12600k.  The ASRock z690 or b660 Pro RS seems to be the best budget board for Alder lake and it supports 3200mhz.

3600 is not always supported with Alder Lake, they focused a lot more on DDR5.  My boyfriend's 12600k shreds with 3200 though so it's no big deal.

Though I'm curious, what's the deficiency with the 7700K?  Should still be a very good 3D rendering CPU.  If it's related to windows 11 I can assure you you don;t need an upgrade, it's something you have to do in your UEFI and then your good to go.

so what would be the better option here? The i5 12600K or the i7 12700K when i want my vr simulator to run as smooth as possible

12600k.  the 12700k would be exactly the same but cost more

Yeah it's a ten core.  The 6 hyperthreaded cores would be more than enough to run your game, and the 4 single thread cores would be wide open to do anything else.  Not to mention, those hyper-threaded cores are almost twice as fast as the ones on your 7700k, and the single threaded cores are also noticeably faster than the same single threaded cores on an i5 7600k.  The only difference with the 12700k is two additional hyperthreaded cores that would never get used for anything because you'll already have more cores than you can use.

Theoretically 12700K can be faster than 12600K in single core using same clock speed as it has larger cache. Best value part is 12700F when you remove the power limitations for it.

okay thanks, and the motherboard is ATX, my current motherboard is a micro atx is this a problem? because i have some space left in my case but its not that much.

Yeah but you shouldn't really go into theoreticals when helping people plan out builds who don't already know what they're doing.  In reality, both have large caches and the actual end-state performance will be unchanged.  Not to mention that the lower thermal density would mitigate OC differences created by a slightly smaller cache.

It'll probably fit, what model is your case?  Is it about two or three inches at the bottom?  if so then yes.
