AMD 7970 Crossfire

Is this a good or bad idea? I was considering either a GTX 760 SLI for the same price on eBay or a GTX 780. Mostly due to the fact that I would like to have shadowplay for all of the recording that I do for my gaming channel. But if I do a crossfire setup can I record with out dropping down to my current GTX 770 FPS, that is when gaming on a 1440p monitor which is why I'm upgrading.

I'm selling the GTX 770 in conjunction with a camera of mine and my monitor in order to get the 1440p monitor and upgrade the graphics card. The math just doesn't work out without it.

show your work because it's not making much sense to me. A 7970/280x is approximately the same price as a 770, even worse if working through eBay.
