Hello all,

last week, I managed to get my hands on a new Nvidia RTX3070ti FE using the official seller here in Germany.

After receiving that card, I immediately put it in my PC and it worked fine. I also played some games (RL, Battlefield2042, Cyberpunk, ...) and everything seemed fine!👍

Yesterday, I wanted to start the PC but noticed some weired behaviour:

Windows would only run at 60 Hz (not 144 Hz) and the second monitor was not working.

I had a look at device manager and found that the GPU showed a yellow mark with "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)".

After that, I tried the following steps:

- Restart Windows (also shift-shutdown to do a full power off)

- Reinstall graphics driver (with and without uninstall using DDU)

- Use a older graphics driver

- Install Windows 10 on a different SSD with only the Nvidia graphics driver

- Use Pop_OS with Nvidia driver

- BIOS update to latest beta BIOS

- Explicitly setting PCIe generation in BIOS to Gen3

None of the steps seems to fix the problem completely. Once or twice I was able to boot into Windows and everything was working (at least on the Desktop, GSync, second screen, ...).

I also put my old GTX1060 6GB back in the system and that graphics card worked fine (tried multiple boots).

relevant system specs:

- AMD Ryzen 3600

- MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

- Nvidia RTX3070ti FE

- Asus PG248Q + AOC G2460V (both connected using Display Port)

After a few hours of debugging, I tried different DisplayPort cables (I've been using the old ones for years and they always worked fine).

Fow now, this seems to fix the problem 🤨

Later today, I need to test if the problem is caused by interference because those DisplayPort cables run alongside many other cables.

I'm totally confused now - has anyone experienced similar problems?

@LinusTech I guess that would be a good "tech tips" video idea for your bonkers cable tester: What is the influence of other cables (e.g. power cables, ...) running parallel to DisplayPort on the signal quality.

I would appreciate any help/confirmation/rejectionon on my theory.

Seems like it was just coincidence or luck that the GPU worked during boot.

If I start a 3D application, it crashes almost immediately and drops me back to the desktop.

So... After waiting for months and months, I need to wait even longer and get the RMA going 😞

Have you tried it running other OS like some Linux distro?

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

  • 1 month later...

Just a short update:
After a few weeks of waiting for the Nvidia RMA process, I've received a completely new card (in sealed retail box).

I also tried to get information on the reason the old card was not working correctly, but was unable to do so (neither via email nor chat).
