Help Please! Random Screen Freezing.

Hi everyone,

 

I just recently built my PC a month ago and I started noticing some screen freezing issues three weeks ago. I get two different types of screen freezing. The first being that the screen freezes for like 10 seconds then the screen turns off for 5 seconds then everything is back to normal. The second type is that the screen freezes and just stays like that and I have to hold the power button down to turn it off. Something to note is that this issue has never happened while gaming. I've had multiple 4-6 hour gaming sessions and I never get any problems. This freezing issue mainly randomly happens while browsing the internet, using apps like word, excel, discord, adobe acrobat, zoom etc... I've also performed some CPU and GPU stress tests and haven't gotten any screen freezing during that. Things that I've tried doing to fix this include updating motherboard bios, performing windows memory diagnostic, making sure all drivers are up to date. If anyone could give me some tips on what the problem is or how to go about fixing it would be greatly appreciated.

Motherboard: MSI MPG Z690 Edge WIFI DDR4

Memory: G.Skill Trident Z Royal 16 GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200 CL 16

Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2 NVME SSD

GPU: Zotac RTX 3050 8GB Twin Edge OC

Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2018) 750 W

Case: Fractal Design Torrent RGB

Latest bios? Latest chipset and GPU drivers? Windows updated?

 

Tried with XMP off?

 

Have you checked what te Windows Reliability Monitor Toll says about the times the issues happened?

It's a good tool to check which software causes issues.

Thanks! Yeah I have the latest bios, chipset and gpu drivers. I have windows 11 and it is updated. 

 

I tried turning XMP off but still got the screen freezing issue so I turned it back on. 

 

I haven't checked that tool yet but I'll make sure to look at it after the next issue.

I had a similar problem - until I took the Refresh-Rate on the Monitor down a bin.

Hardware error?!

 

Does OCCT CPU work fine?

3dmark passes?

Temperatures ok?

Hard disk Sentinel says the drive is fine?

@EddyG1127I have the a similar issue. I tried using DDU, Updating BIOS, trying a different PCIe slot, running the system with minimal components, testing memory with MemTest86, re-installing Windows, stress testing the system - temps could be better but not cause of issue, various disk check commands in command prompt, resetting CMOS and turning XMP off, and RMA'd my original card with a replacement and it still didn't fix the problem. Someone on the forum suggested that it could be the power supply but I'm not sure. I just don't know what else to try.
