Storage setup

vladonizer

I'm planning a new build and trying to figure out what storage to use in what configuration. I was planning on using a gen 4 m.2's for 2TB of storage. But if you have better recommendations, let me know.

Should I use a board and the included PCI E for m.2s?

Or should I save some money on this board and just put the m.2 under the heatsheild?

What uses would you have for 2x 2TB Gen4 NVMe drives? That's a whole lotta money for very little/unnoticeable performance difference when just loading games and the like.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.

Best setup that I can recommend is 2xM.2 drives usually mounted to the motherboard but the daughter card option of the first motherboard is a nice luxury to have.

One drive is your boot drive.

The other drive is your gaming/current project drive where the added speed and vastly reduced capacity of SSD's are acceptable.

Then you have at least one or more big HDD's for bulk storage. If you have the money or are planning on storing high space things like videos or leaving a lot of games installed for whatever reasons then seriously look at the double digit TB drives.

After that you can figure out if things like RAID arrays are right for your use case.

In short 3 drives minimum.

I was looking at possible 2 x 1TB drives or 1 x 2TB drive
