On every laptop I've dealt with (granted, not many, but still) it's an option in the BIOS to enable battery time reporting, and it just shows up in the toolbar when you mouse over the battery indicator, no need to mess with the registry or anything. It's probably worth trying at least.

Will give it a try, the standard HP BIOS is like circa windows 95 level of customization

To be fair, the last laptop that I did this on was a 2017 HP machine (I forget the exact model, it was some pavilion with a 1050 in it)

From a Pavilion with a 3700U, many thanks. Like why is it disabled by default, it's a very useful tool for determining battery health. When 100% charge is less than 1 hour on desktop, it's time to start the search for a new battery.
