Hi!

I had an Asus Turbo RTX 2080Ti, it was loud and too powerful for me, so I traded it to a Gigabyte RTX 2070 ( Story lower )

Basically I gave the guy a perfectly working, only gaming card, and he gave me money and that 2070, that  ended up having dead memory, 1 hours after booting up the PC with it. We also agreed on giving each other a 3 day replace warranty, if the card dies. The 2080Ti works, 2070 dead the day.

I gave him a working card, but he thinks it will die in days, cause it has Hynix memory and not Samsung ones. Is this true or he is trying to scam me?

We traded, he will send a new 2070 tomorrow, and I'll send him back the dead one, BUT, he is selling my 2080Ti currently, and he will only send me a new 2070, if I give 3 days of warranty on the 2080Ti to the guy he sells it to.

I'm just kinda nervous, if this memory issue is really a thing, or he is just trying to make a fake deal with a friend to get money out of me...

TL;DR: Is the All Hynix RTX 2080Tis will die claim true, or he is just tring to scam me?

system out println("Please don't drop it Linus!");

Card is working, you fulfilled your part of the deal. He is just trying to scam you, I definitely would recommend you to ask your own card back and back out of the deal. The reason behind your trade is also mind boggling. You could have fixed both loud and "too powerful" part of your problem by sliding the power limit down in MSI Afterburner.

It's a blower card, it was audible with closed back headphones, and figured I don't need a 2080Ti to play World of Tanks and Wartunder, so I opted for having something less powerful and money.

You can limit that audible annoyance by limiting some performance OFF the topend... limiting fps / power usage & fan levels to stop it being so audible and loud, and still get great performance even when limited (still above a 2070), until you save and adapt a better cooler.

I'd back out of the deal dude...

Undervolt the 2080Ti even or just use the MSI Afterburner Power target slider..., it'll be quieter and still more powerful than a 2070.

Just googled the PAST YEAR for anything on 2080Ti and Hynix failures, didn't find much of anything so..... just back out, get your GPU back.

Cooling the Beast

(I used this method)

https://nzxt.com/product/kraken-g12

AIO Liquid Cooler Compatibility:

  • NZXT: Kraken Z73, Z63, X73, X63, X53, X72, X62, X52, X42, X61, X41, X31, X60, X40
  • Corsair: H105, H110, H90, H75 (CW-9060015-WW only), H55, H50 (CW-906006-WW only)
  • Thermaltake: Water 3.0 Riing RGB 360, 280, 240, Red 280, 140 - Water 3.0 Ultimate - Extreme S, Extreme, Pro, Performer - Water 2.0 Extreme, Pro, Performer
  • Antec: KUHLER H2O 920V4, 620V4, 920, 620
  • Zalman: LQ-320, LQ-315, LQ-310

I have a 2080Ti, a twin fan LOUD beast of a unit, so I went with NZXT KrakenG12, while you don't need the 240mm AIO I used, the 120mm would suffice for around 50-55*c (give or take) at Load while being super quiet, you'll also have a faster clocked GPU because lower temps will allow a higher boost clock (every 5*c drop = 15Mhz gain)

Spoiler

If you are worried about PCB temps/RAM chip temps, you can offset a Noctua 80mm fan on the top (backplate) PCB and cool down this side if you also want to, the integrated fan from the G12 will give the vrm's and underside ram chips cool with flowing ambient air.

Alright, ended up talking to the guy, we agreed that I'll sell the 2080Ti and the buyer will give hom the money, this way there is no games, and I can happily give that warranty this way. Also he will give me a new in-box Gainward 2070, so at the end seems like it will all go well.

Will update you guys when the new card is here.
