Hey LTT-Community,

 

I got some trouble on my hands with my new gaming laptop. I know a desktop is better but I need the mobility.
I recently had to deactivate the entire Intel UHD integrated graphics, since my games will always use both GPU's either my settings are. Which causes spontaneous micro-fps-drops. Obviously thats very annoying.
My question is, if there's anyway to stop windows/steam/the game from doing exactly that.
In the windows graphics settings I already changed it to 'HIGH PERFORMANCE GPU' for the specific applications. Which didn't solve anything.

 

Specifications:

  • Windows 11 x64 (TPM 2.0 enabled and CPU supported.)
  • Freshly installed just over a week ago by myself.
  • The laptop's also just over a week old.
  • Intel i5-11400H 6C/12T
  • RTX 3060 Mobile 6GB
  • Asus TUF Gaming F15 FX506HM-HN223
  • Two Monitors, Keyboard and mouse connected via USB-C-Hub

No computer without sli or crossfire or software support of some form will ever use more than a single gpu per application

 

So your laptop isnt going to be combining the intel gpu with another gpu ever for any tasks

May I ask how you came to the conclusion it was using both? Unless we are talking DX12 titles using MulitGPU technology, I don't think it's possible for both cards to be rendering the same game at the same time in tandem. So I'm willing to bet it's not doing what you think it is. But glad you found a workaround.

Well, two things. First of all Task Manager shows me what Module is being used in the 'Performance' tab, which in this case was 3D-Rendering for both. Also it was just during playing games.
Second of all, after disabling the Intel UHD Graphics the fps drops stopped.

That doesn't mean that it was using both to render the game... just that it was doing something with the Intel UHD while you gamed... which caused the micro-studdering. Does your laptop have any "performance overlays"?? If it does, I wonder if that's what caused it. Rendering those on UHD and playing the game on discrete. 

 

What game was it you found this was happening in? All of them or just a few?

What game was it you found this was happening in? All of them or just a few? 

Basically every game. The only overlay installed is the GeForce Experience which's needed for DLSS. Obviously using that.
Same games were basically unplayable by the stuttering, like Overwatch.
