hello all, i built a pc back in late 2017. the base was an i5-7600k in an ASRock b250 pro4, with a Strix 1050ti, 8gb of ddr4 2900, a 1tb hdd, and windows 10. about 3 months ago, i got a 980ti founders from a friend of mine, and he had no issues with it at any point, i put it into my pc, and noticed a decrease in frames in almost every game, and it progressively got worse. CSGO, minimum settings in 1080p runs at about 90fps, i went and bought a 850watt corsair power supply to see if it was a power problem, changed nothing. ive made sure all cables are nicely snapped in, all drivers are up to date, and i just need help. a pretty expensive box at this point. Also temps on the gpu rarely ever hit over 80.

Full Specs

-i5-7600k cpu

-b250 pro4

-980ti EVGA Founders

-1tb seagate hdd

-128gb kingston ssd

-16gb ddr4 2900

-corsair 850w psu

NOTE: Some random games will run perfectly, like Battlefield 4, Fallout 4/76, which i see as a lot more intensive than csgo, or minecraft, which are 2 games that run very poorly

I'm no expert, so this is strictly conjecture, but I can tell you that the Asus GTX1650S 4GB OC I put in my rig a year or so ago hasn't performed well either, with similar frame drop. I am finding now that the board I have (MSI's B450M Bazooka) apparently doesn't officially support this GPU, so I am now preparing to completely rebuild with mostly new and matched components. So I wonder if your system board doesn't like the 980?

This is not a thing. Your board doesn't care what GPU is in the PCIe slot.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

You wouldn't think so, but I beg to differ. My B450M Bazooka shut down on VGA error in POST when my GTX1650S was installed. Reinstalled the GT1030 it came with and it booted fine. Installed software and drivers for the GTX1650S, shut down, reinstalled, and the POST VGA error continued until the board literally shut down. I had to send it back to MSI under warranty, and though it worked when I got it back, it's been neurotic ever since. Now they tell me the BIOS update for my planned 5900X upgrade will fry the board. I'm done with MSI. Just my experience. Got a brand-new Asus Prime B550M-K waiting with all the other parts.

OP, bottleneck calculators do indicate your CPU may be bottlenecking the 980ti. Just a thought.

There is a problem with one of the components involved. GPU compatibility with certain boards is not a thing, even less than RAM QVL's. Only exception would be some prebuilts that have a GPU whitelist.

My current setup was originally a prebuilt (CyberPowerPC), so that could well be it. So my thought process still holds water, at least in my case. Pending cooling concerns, it's all going bye-bye soon, only reusing the case and aftermarket RAM and SSD I installed as upgrades. After what you just said, I will never even LOOK at a pre-built again. This one was gifted to me after my previous P4 blew up.
