Aim: solve performance bottlenecks in a few games and encryption on SSD
Monitors: one at 1920x1080
Peripherals: have it all
Why am I upgrading:

I need some more storage space and still use one of this old rotating things. And my Phenom* 840 CPU also bottlenecks in a few cases. (*=Its really an athlon II ;])
Because my current CPU does not come with AES-IN, and I use full encryption on all my devices, I did not consider an SSD so far. Also I won't use encryption features from SSDs for several reasons.

The SSD would be used 50% for win7 (truecrypt) and 50% for ubuntu (Luks/dm-crypt). And I keep an 1GiB HDD in the system for bulk data.

As CPU I would go with the i5 4670. I can't think of any workload where I get benefits from HT except for compiling, where my current CPU already gives me enough performance.
In a few cases (esp. games most of you won't know) I need raw single thread performance, otherwise I would go with an 8320.
As far as I can see over clocking does not look very tempting with the bad head transfer of Haswell, the marginal gains, and the cost the come with a better board/cooling.

I still don't know what board and CPU cooler to use. There are good cheap coolers out there, but I hesitate to screw 1Kg of aluminum on the side of my mainboard and let it hang down like I perform a material breaking point test. :<
But I don't want to use the noisy stock cooler.

i5 4670 (boxed)
175,23 €

CPU Cooling Block/FAN
? €

1150 BOARD
? €

Crucial M500 480GB (447GiB)
179,96 €

Cooltek K2 Rev.C1 Midi (One of the few towers that has place for my HiS Radeon 7870 and isn't overpriced)
36,35 €

What I currently have and will keep:
HiS Radeon 7870
8 GiB 1333 Ram
Cooler Master RS-500-ASAA 500 Watt

So please tell me what board and CPU cooler I shall get and maybe why my current CPU/SSD choices are terrible.

The board is fully your choice.. Lots of good ones. I don't have any particular I recommend, as it all depends on your budget.

However, for the cooler, I say Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - hands down.

Cheapest cooler for the best performance, period.

take a look at the ASrock boards. My brother also has the i5 4670 and he has the mATX version of this board:

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/ASRock-B85-Pro4-Intel-B85-So-1150-Dual-Channel-DDR3-ATX-Retail_854976.html

works perfectly fine and has a decent set of features for the price.

Looked at other coolers in that price range. All others did have cons like bad/no back plates or a wobely fan mounting. Hyper 212 EVO it is!

Picked a similar board from asrock: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/tab/techdata/ASRock-H87-Pro4-Intel-H87-So-1150-Dual-Channel-DDR3-ATX-Reta_854962.html#techdata

Has more usb3.0 ports and better user valuations. Also I won't ever use dual GPUs and dont need the two slots.

I can recommend the MSI Z87 G45 Gaming Motherboard, but I see that you choose a non-K version of the i5 4670, so you dont plan to overclock at all? cause the 4670K is just ~2-3 USD higher than the 4670, but the 4670 non-K is pretty much limited and you wont be able to overclock later on even if you want.

For cooler: if you want air cooler, 212 EVO or Dark Rock Pro 3, if you want AIO water cooler, H100i. For SSD I dont have any recommend.

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

The K version would cost me 15€ more. And that board you mention would cost ~65€ more. Thats already 80€ more. Also overclockers seem to use way more expensive integrated liquid coolers.

If I overclock I would not go for max. because of stability and heat/noise. I expect the 4670 mostly to run at 3.6-3.8 GHz because of its "turbo" mode. And the overclock limits seem to be around 4.8 GHz with all the extra costs, eventually shorter life more noise and gambeling of getting a good die.

As I understand it you also can get a decent overclock without a free multiplicator. Even if I don't know how good this would work with a 60€ mainboard.

It just does not seem to be worth it for me.
