Budget (including currency): £1400

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Solidworks, and Solidworks Sim, some games such as War Thunder and Minecraft

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have the backbones of a system laid out on PC part picker, just want some suggestions if there is anywhere I can save some money or optimise the build better. I have not included GPU on Pc Part Picker as am thinking of getting the Quadro RTX 4000 and would be getting this used. (Open to suggestions on the GPU as well if there are any better cards for cheaper)27256804_Screenshot2022-02-25at21_08_49.thumb.png.edf20e00d7240ec7795db1494e201e0d.png

The system won't be much good for gaming equipped with an Quadro RTX 4000. So you might consider a larger monitor more suited to design work.

I'm not sure the motherboard not cooler could handle the 125W TDP i5-12600K. I'd suggest instead stepping down to the 65W i5-12600.

I would swap the case and motherboard. Mesh front much better than plastic or glass and msi b660m-a pro looks like it has decent vrm under larger heat sinks.

Quick Question about the gpu, would a 2080 super be similar in terms of CAD performance? not sure if the quadro benefits are worth the negatives for gaming

if there’s a better gpu for around £550 it would be great to know

cheers

If gaming is important the RTX 2080 would be better than the RTX 4000.

The cpu cooler is very marginal.

New cpu coolers come with a tube of or pre-applied thermal compound. Little to no need for the Kryonaught.

Generally an unlocked cpu is paired with a Z series motherboard.
