Board is sata 2.

Either way don't waste money on doing upgrades this system is far beyond it's use and is about 14 years old. It would be far better for you to simply buy a simple cheap system from ebay or somewhere local with the specs I posted. It will be better than this system can ever be.

i currently own a very old pc

which has a lga 775 motherboard , intel core 2 duo e6420 cpu , 2 gb ram 800mhz(max motherboard support), wd2500 ide hard drive (250 gb)IMG_20220225_142950_475.thumb.jpg.f8ee3f4c24d89bf00344d13799cf3a31.jpg

i am already  upgrading to core 2 duo E8500,

what else i can upgrade so it can run smoothly for basic task like (surfing web, running softwares like {krita ,pencil 2d , medibang , sketch book }, some multitasking )

should i go for a 2.5 inch sata ssd or a gpu (either of them )

please also tell me that i can actually upgrade or not specially regard ssd

What exact motherboard do you have?

Upgrading to an from an HDD to SSD for the OS is in general the most significant upgrade you can do on an old system, but that depends on that your motherboard actually support it.

If you want me to answer, please use the quote function or tag me. I dont get notified unless you do

About the best you could do is swap in a Core 2 Quad, a SATA SSD (any SATA SSD), and a modern but entry level "display adapter" class GPU like a Radeon R5 240.

I'm not sure what the used PC market looks like where you are, but I suspect you'll be better off saving to afford something newer as your starting point than putting money into this PC. No matter what you do to it, it's going to feel like a 15 year old PC. See what you can find for off-lease corporate computers that have at least a Sandy Bridge or Haswell processor.

please also tell what is that yellow cable coming out of it

That's the IDE data connection between your hard drive and your motherboard.

It looks like your motherboard has a SATA connector in the bottom right corner. What's the model number?

can you please tell me that i could even add a new ssd or not i am not sure it currently has a ide hard drive

If that's a SATA connector on your motherboard, you'll just need to get a SATA data cable and Molex to SATA adapter to plug it in.

An SSD and a video card will make the biggest difference in how responsive your PC is. The GPU will take the heavy load of video decoding off the CPU.

Do you have 100$? Because if so you can buy a quad core i5 4th gen, 8gb ram with a ssd dell,hp,... tower system and that would be SO MUCH BETTER than anything you can do with this pc ever.

You will spend more money on upgrading this system than you would getting a cheap used system from ebay that will ALWAYS be better than what this computer can ever be.

Even the most basic GPU will make a big difference, too.

See if you can find a Core 2 Quad Q8400, if you're doing a lot of multitasking the extra cores will help more than the E8500's clock speed advantage.

Luterally any 2nd or 3rd gen prebuilt will obliterate that thing, even with an i3 cpu

Lga 775 is wayyy too old to be useful and decent value unless you can get a cheap pc with a q6600 for ~50$. Its mainly just a retro gaming or extreme overclocking platform nowadays cause its on the edge of complete obselescense but still enough to be used for basic things, my e8400 at 4.72ghz (bench stable) will only compare with a 3770 single core but multicore is not gonna beat even a 2nd gen i3 thats for sure

Even with a heavy oc its either gonna get obliterated by an i3 or just barely match an i3 in performance, the quads do better but most of the time match an i3 or at most an i5

Normally I can easily find these kinds of systems for people on ebay. A lot of cheap i5 and even i3 office systems are on there under 100$ that I can show you right now if you want?

Since you were talking in usd I assumed you lived in the us. I am not knowledgeable about prices there so sorry but I cannot help you with that. It's an entirely different market.
