All things being equal I am finally looking at trading in my canon 7D mk2 during the summer and getting a new body for filming.

Most of the stuff i film ends up on facebook, twitter so most of my clients have that 2min limit on vid length

Decisions already made

At lest 4k as even if the majority of my clients don't currently need it that may change

Stick with the canon ecosystem as I have the lenses and am not changing out the stills body

So the question is do i go for the C70 with its internal ND filters and new type battery but still have a crop on my lenses or do I go for the 5C with its full frame 4k but older style batteries with less capacity (i currently have half a dozen that would work with it)

I figure i can get the ND adaptor for the 5C at the cost of 3 extra batteries for the C70 so costs work out around the same give or take a tenner

What lenses do you have?

Id probably go c70 if you can, better batteries, built in nd, better audio, better controls, better ports. And you get keep using your crop lenses too(well you can on the r5 too as it will auto crop in)

I don't find the 8k on the r5 very useful, esp for online delivery, the extra sharpness really doesn't matter for most all uses, and the 8k footage is huge and a pain to edit on a lot of systems.

Id probably wait till the summer and see if there are any changes in prices and if you can actually find a r5c in stock.

Over the past few years i have managed to change out to L glass mostly (kept the nifty 50 1.8 and 85 1.8) no EFS as my main stills camera is the 6D2. What i meant was that with the 7D having a crop sensor and the c70 being super 35 they don't use the full lens angle of view.

The whole 8k thing is not a major pull for me as i said all of my clients currently want 1080p ( if they even realise about that sort of thing).  A lot of them are just delighted i can add personalised lower thirds and end cards. i don't tell them i watched a few vids on after effects during the first lock down then spent a couple of hour building templates i can change in a couple of minutes and drop in. 😉

It will be the summer before i change out anything as i need to wait and see if i get a contract renewal at my other job

How do you find the R5 in wet wether as I nearly managed to kill my original 7D mark 1 in a monsoon in Cambodia. Not something im looking to repeat

you can also speed boost FF ef glass on the C70 if you need more light.

now vertical crops if your shooting widescreen can be a reason to go 8k.
