So I am doing a mother board switch from a terrible b450m-IBW to a Prime b450-a II. I took everything out of the pc just fine. I took the CPU out and it came off with the cooler attached. I inspected the pins everything looks fine. My issue is this: I don’t have thermal paste. Is it possible to put the CPU into my new motherboard without taking the processor off of the cooler? My main concern is the silver lever that flips up. When I took out the CPU on my old MOBO I never released the switch. I assume it would be fine to put it back on there just like it came out. I could be paranoid. But yea. TLDR: CPU came out with cooler and I don’t have thermal paste, can I put the cooler and cpu into a new mobo without removing the processor from the cooler.

Thanks in advance!

Should I just use the already applied paste? The CPU is like 4 months old.

Reuse thermal paste? My answer is always no. Thermal paste is cheap, computer parts are expensive. That being said, some will say new thermal paste if the coverage is still good, can be reused. Your temps will not be as good, but not always change to meaningful degree.

That being said if you decide to risk it you should check your temps afterwards, both at idle and under load.

So I’m gonna get thermal paste. My problem how is that I see a pin laying down bent, on the corner you have to align with the socket. It’s not broken it’s bent. I don’t want to mess up other pins in the process. What should I do

You mean one of the CPU pins is bent at an angle a little bit? If it's close enough to socket it, you should be ok. If it needs adjustment you may want to carefully try with something fine like a small set of tweezers. The problem being is you don't want to mess with it much. Just get it close enough it will go in. If you mess with it too much you'll risk it breaking off. They will usually handle a minor adjustment though.
