Big brain SSD fix.

Hi everyone.

 

I wanted to make this post just to document my strange fix for an ssd.

 

Last week i noticed my main crucial 500gb m.2 ssd stopped showing up on bios. This was so bad that i had to reboot about 8 times before i would get a successful boot.

 

I had a second 128gb adata ssd that i replaced some years ago that was just lying around. so i decided to take a day and install windows on the 128gb ssd with the intention of replacing my main boot drive at a later date.

 

After installing windows i realized why i replaced the 128gb ssd ages ago. The PC would crash once the ssd reached 100% disk usage. 

 

I did however notice that the 500gb ssd showed up every single time in windows. So I formed a theory.

 

My best geuss is that the 500gb crucial ssd doesnt power up quick enough for the bios to pick it up. 

 

I installed easy bcd and set up a dual boot enviroment. So now my pc boots to the dual boot menu on the 128gb ssd and then from there windows directs the pc to boot from my main boot drive.

 

This way i get a successful boot every time but i require two copies of windows installed.

 

I geuss i might be blessed with another month or two before i need to replace my boot drive.

Hmm, why else do you think it might not show up.
I tried a few other fixes. Clearing the cmos, switching to legacy boot unplugging and replugging the drive.

What would you have tried?

 

Now that i think about it. The drive has a light on it which didn't light up when the drive didn't show up. This was when i decided i had to reinstall windows.

What crucial model exactly?
What Mobo? 
Any POST errors?
Maybe fast boot setting, PCIe OC, Or bad PSU? 
Updating firmware may help 

Do you have any other SATA device plug in the MoBo?
