Display to hdmi port question

Hello community.

I have searched the internet and cannot get a clear answer. I am moving from and rx 580 to a modern Amd gpu, but the ones I want to buy typically only ha e 1 hdmi port. I run. Two displays both with hdmi. Can I just use a plain old hdmi to display port adapter and run my second display off of the adapter and my main display off of the hdmi. Do I have to use an active adapter?

Thanks for any help. I do t with to pull the trigger on an expensive purchase without knowing it will work properly. Example of gpu upgrading to would be an rx 6600 xt

Hello,

Any Displayport to HDMI cable should work. You should not need an active adapter anymore, all modern GPUs require or have DP++ (display port dual mode) that allows Displayport to display via the HDMI interface through an adapter/cable.

You don't need an active adapter. You would need an active adapter if you were trying to use a DisplayPort display with an HDMI source, which is something I do quite often. You're going the other way though, so you're fine with a standard DP to HDMI cable or adapter.

Thanks. Good to know. I have found a 6600xt for 650 CAD. I only play 1080p games and think that is my best bet at this point in the market.

That is a pretty decent price for one right now.

I lucked out getting my Vega 56 in 2019... it was only $200. Now I don't think I will upgrade for the next 3 years at this point, especially for 1080p!
