Hey gamers,

So I've been running a 980TI and i7 6700K since 2016ish and this rig has served me phenomenally since then. The issue is, I really enjoy VR and it absolutely struggles to keep up with newer VR hardware as well as hitting an ever-increasing wall when it comes to games. Now, when it comes to building a new PC, I'm the type of person who isn't interested in skimping-out on anything and want to make sure I get the best possible options that will last me as long as my current rig (within reason, of course). I decided to check out Build Redux after yet another amazing segue by Linus to see what they have to offer, and with a bit of tweaking this screenshot is what I have so far. Everything seems pretty quality and up to snuff for a desperately needed upgrade, but I'm not nearly as part-savvy as I'd need to be to really understand what I'm looking at here. Which brings me to my main question:

Am I screwing myself over here?

As in, are there any parts that are questionable, or something missing that I would need for this to function properly/significantly better? Water cooling is a bit over my head, but I believe that's a common thing for high-end GPUs that isn't listed here? Should I wait for the new hardware coming out in the next few months instead? Its a big investment that I want to last so I want to ensure this is, relatively speaking, the best option I can go for. I appreciate any input!

I don't think your screwing yourself over here just a few things to note
not having water on your GPU is fine

current hardware is great so its fine pulling the trigger now,

also if your willing to pay a lot anyway, I'd also look into Maingear and Origin PC. They do both charge a fairly high price but seem to do amazing jobs with the pc's and secret shopper proved they have great customer support.

So after doing a bit of digging, I decided I'd really like to have a 3090 and a Ryzen 9 5900X to really help boost the performance of VR (as far as I understand). I tried to put together my own build on PC Part Picker and go through Origin to compare the price points, and it seems like building it myself may be the better option. The only thing I'm really unsure about on my build is the motherboard, as well as that GPU being one of the few actually available, but it still comes out to less than the Origin build by about $400. If I get all around thumbs up on this build I put together then that's likely what I'll start saving for over the next few months, hopefully getting a few price drops along the way. So please feel free to critique as I'm not remotely close to an expert, I just want the best I can get.... within reason (i.e. a Threadripper seems like its way too much for something that isn't profession-related, but I could be wrong).

Your system looks pretty good if you want to spec into things like having a LCD screen on you aio.
The MSI board should be good.

I would go Origin literally purely for "ethics" as you're not buying from some douchebag doubling the price of the GPU but I can understand not

besides that, its a good high end system, Only real recomendation would be to look into Alder Lake since it seems to out perform Ryzen 5th gen
