Trying to fix my siblings laptop. It seems it went to a BSOD boot loop after a Windows 10 update.

Laptop DELL Inspirion 15 (3521)
CPU: i5-3317U
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7670M
RAM: 6144MB (1x2048 + 1x4096) 1600MHz DDR3
STORAGE: 750GB Serial ATA (5400RPM) HDD
Current OS: Windows 10 (I think)

Previous OS: Windows 8.1
Out of the box OS: Windows 8

Things I've tried to get into WRE or the pc to post

  • The good ol' 3 hard shutdowns after the manufacturer screen
  • Load BIOS defaults
  • Secure BOOT from BIOS
  • Tried to boot from an windows USB (Won't open the boot selection menu, instead loops the options screen "F2 & F12")
  • Took the CMOS battery out for couple of minutes

Can you get into safe mode? You have to do the 3 hard shut downs after windows shows a sign that it's trying to boot like the spinning wheel. You could end up shutting the PC down before windows tries to boot and as a result safe mode won't activate.

If that's not possible then get a windows 10 install on a USB flash drive, boot into it and in this window after you select the language in the corner there should be an option Repair your computer available image.png.1ebe1843bd2d05a70208cb84e8c7e0dd.png

From there if you select the troubleshoot option it should take you to this screen where you can uninstall an update or restore the system to an older point if it was made and other options that should help with troubleshooting

Yes I've waited until the spinning wheel. Safe mode did not initialize.

It won't open the boot selection menu when a flash drive is inserted. Instead it loops the F2 - F12 selection menu.
